I had to divide this post because it's just too long! So much happened on the 1st day yet we only went to two attractions!
From Nami Island, it takes another 3 hours to arrive at the Mt. Seorak National Park. Of course, I had another good 3 hours of sleep. :))
Welcome to Mt. Seorak National Park!!! :)
-san means 'mountain'. It will be redundant if it's called Mt. Seoraksan. In Korean language, the formalities and common nouns always follow after the name of a person, place, etc.
Lol this ahjussi (married man) posing for the camera!
The Shinheun Temple, aka Shinheungsa. Sa also means Temple :)
We walked to a cable car station, where, a cable car will take us to the mountain.
FYI that is not the peak of Mt. Seorak :))
As we continue to hike, the cold wind becomes harsh. I had difficulty in breathing not because it was tiring but because of the wind. I'm so amazed by the ahjummas (married women) and some halmeonis (grandmother) who were hiking also!! They still have strong immune systems despite their age! :) I even heard one ahjumma said it was fun! (In Korean, it's 'jaemittda')
*Too bad I cannot type any Hangul here
We're at the northeastern most part of South Korea!! But me and my friends weren't able to climb at the peak of Mt. Seorak, although we were almost there. The wind was just too strong I almost fell on my butt! Anyway, this is the Taebaek mountain range. In Korea it is called 'taebaeksanmaek'. It stretches from North Korea to South Korea. It is called the 'backbone' of the Korean peninsula. Mt. Seorak is part of the mountains of Taebaek and is the highest mountain in the range.
while waiting for the cable car to take us back to the 'lowlands' :))
View from the cable car
About 5 minutes away from the park, we went to a local restaurant for dinner :)
Seafood steamboat with banchan
My 2nd day Korean adventure will be posted.....after I watermark all the photos, maybe? Hahaha stay tuned! And...................
Always Keep the Faith.
